One-Day APN Acupuncture Workshop
Morning Instruction. Afternoon Supervised Clinical Practice.
Active Perineural Neuromodulation—APN—is a precision, feedback-guided acupuncture method developed by Dr. Jennifer Williams to address pain, impaired movement, altered sensation, spasticity, and other forms of neurological dysfunction.
This one-day workshop concentrates specifically on the core APN acupuncture technique. It is designed for licensed practitioners who want a clinically grounded method that can be learned through demonstration, practiced under direct supervision, and integrated into patient care.
Unlike a fixed point prescription, APN is responsive to the individual patient. Practitioners learn to combine palpation, neuroanatomical landmarks, movement or functional assessment, precise needle placement, patient feedback, and immediate reassessment to guide treatment.

What Is Active Perineural Neuromodulation?
Pain, weakness, spasticity, altered sensation, and impaired movement may be influenced by disrupted neurological signaling, mechanical restriction, tissue pressure, or dysfunction surrounding peripheral nerve and neurovascular pathways.
APN applies acupuncture within this neurological framework. Treatment focuses on carefully selected anatomical regions where peripheral nerves, blood vessels, fascia, muscle, and surrounding tissues interact.
Participants learn how needle location, angle, depth, direction, clinical intent, and tissue response influence the treatment. The method emphasizes continuous observation and reassessment rather than relying solely on predetermined acupuncture point combinations.
APN is designed to help practitioners answer three essential clinical questions:
- What structure or pathway may be limiting function?
- Where can that pathway be accessed safely and effectively?
- How does the patient’s response guide the next clinical decision?
Workshop Format
Morning: Core Method and Technical Instruction
The first half of the workshop establishes the clinical and anatomical foundation of APN.
Instruction includes:
- The neurological and physiological framework of APN
- Recognition of peripheral nerve and neurovascular access regions
- Palpation and identification of relevant anatomical landmarks
- Patient positioning and practitioner ergonomics
- Needle angle, direction, depth, and clinical intent
- Recognition of tissue and patient feedback
- Treatment sequencing and reassessment
- Contraindications, precautions, and safety considerations
- Live demonstration of the core APN method
Participants then begin practicing the technique with direct guidance and correction.
Afternoon: Supervised Clinical Application
After lunch, selected volunteer patients who may benefit from the method join the workshop.
Participants work through a structured clinical process that includes:
- Identifying the patient’s primary functional limitation
- Establishing a measurable baseline
- Selecting the appropriate APN treatment region
- Applying the technique under direct supervision
- Reassessing pain, sensation, movement, strength, gait, or function
- Determining whether treatment should continue, change direction, or stop
This clinical portion gives participants same-day experience applying the method while learning how to interpret patient responses and make real-time treatment decisions.
Volunteer participation is based on patient suitability, informed consent, and the requirements of the host location.

The workshop does not promote a single protocol for every condition. Participants learn how to identify and respond to the presentation of the individual patient.

- Position patients safely for treatment

Who Should Attend?
This workshop is designed for licensed acupuncturists and other licensed healthcare practitioners whose professional scope legally authorizes the practice of acupuncture.
Participants should already possess foundational needling skills, understand Clean Needle Technique, and be able to identify basic anatomical structures. This is not an introductory acupuncture or needle-insertion course.
