Non-Penetrating Techniques: Level 1 Certificate Workshop
One-Day, Six-Hour Workshop | No Needles | Practical, Supervised Training
Auricular therapy provides healthcare professionals with a practical, non-penetrating method of supporting pain management, neurological regulation, stress reduction, sleep, and other common clinical concerns.
This one-day workshop teaches the safe application of:
- Ear seeds
- Therapeutic magnets
- 24-karat gold-plated pellets
No needles are used, and the skin is not penetrated.
Participants learn the neurological foundations of auricular therapy, the anatomy of the external ear, reliable point-location methods, material selection, application techniques, safety, patient education, and practical treatment protocols.

What Is Auricular Therapy?
Auricular therapy uses carefully selected areas of the external ear to provide focused sensory stimulation. The ear contains a dense network of cranial and cervical nerve pathways, making it a useful access point for influencing sensory processing, pain perception, autonomic regulation, and other neurological responses.
Small seeds, magnets, or gold-plated pellets are secured to the ear with adhesive tape. These materials provide gentle, sustained pressure without penetrating the skin. Patients may also be taught how and when to stimulate the selected areas between appointments.
Auricular therapy can be used independently or incorporated into a broader medical, rehabilitation, acupuncture, behavioral health, or integrative care plan.
Workshop Format
Section One: Foundations and Neurological Framework
The first portion of the workshop introduces the history, development, and neuroanatomical basis of auricular therapy.
Topics include:
- Historical development of auricular therapy
- Neurological organization of the external ear
- Cranial and cervical nerve relationships
- Sensory and autonomic regulation
- The relationship between ear regions and functional systems
- How non-penetrating stimulation may influence clinical responses
- Appropriate uses and limitations of auricular therapy
The material is presented in contemporary clinical language that can be understood and applied across healthcare disciplines.
Section Two: Ear Anatomy and Point Location
Participants learn to identify the major anatomical structures of the external ear and use those landmarks to locate treatment areas accurately.
Instruction includes:
- External ear anatomy
- Reliable anatomical landmarks
- Standardized orientation and mapping
- Visual inspection and palpation
- Recognition of tenderness, texture, color, and tissue changes
- Point and region selection
- Differences among seeds, magnets, and gold-plated pellets
- Material selection based on the patient and clinical purpose
This section includes demonstration and supervised hands-on practice.
Section Three: Clinical Application, Protocols and Safety
The final section brings the information together through practical treatment planning and guided application.
Participants learn:
- How to select a focused group of ear points
- How many points or regions to use
- Proper cleaning and skin preparation
- Secure placement of seeds, magnets, and pellets
- Appropriate pressure and stimulation
- Patient instructions for home stimulation
- Recommended wear time and removal
- Documentation and follow-up
- Recognition of irritation, discomfort, or adverse skin reactions
- Contraindications, precautions, and referral considerations
Participants practice locating treatment regions and applying the materials under direct supervision.
Potential Clinical Applications
Non-penetrating auricular therapy may be used as an adjunctive technique in the management of:
- Acute and chronic pain
- Musculoskeletal discomfort
- Stress and autonomic dysregulation
- Sleep disturbance
- Headache and migraine patterns
- Nausea and digestive discomfort
- Fatigue and recovery support
- Neurological and sensory symptoms
- Emotional strain associated with illness or injury
- General wellness and self-regulation
The workshop emphasizes individualized point selection rather than relying exclusively on fixed protocols.
Learning Outcomes
By the conclusion of the workshop, participants should be able to:
- Explain the basic neurological framework of auricular therapy
- Identify the major anatomical structures of the external ear
- Locate commonly used auricular treatment regions
- Select appropriate seeds, magnets, or gold-plated pellets
- Prepare the ear and apply materials safely
- Develop a focused, individualized auricular treatment plan
- Provide clear instructions for patient stimulation, wear time, and removal
- Recognize contraindications and possible skin reactions
- Document the treatment appropriately
- Incorporate non-penetrating auricular therapy within their existing professional scope
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is designed for licensed healthcare professionals interested in adding a practical, non-penetrating technique to patient care.
Potential participants include:
- Licensed acupuncturists
- Physicians and advanced practice providers
- Nurses
- Physical and occupational therapists
- Chiropractors
- Behavioral health professionals
- Rehabilitation professionals
- Other licensed healthcare providers
Participants are responsible for practicing within the laws, regulations, employer policies, and professional scope applicable to their license and location.
This is not an ear acupuncture needling course. No needles are used, and completion of the workshop does not authorize any procedure outside the participant’s existing professional scope.
Level 1 Certificate of Completion
Participants who attend the complete workshop and demonstrate the core point-location, application, safety, and patient-instruction skills will receive a:
Level 1 Certificate of Completion in Non-Penetrating Auricular Therapy for Integrative Care
This certificate documents completion of the training. It does not confer professional licensure, certification by a regulatory board, or an expansion of an individual’s legal scope of practice.
All materials needed for supervised workshop practice are provided, including ear seeds, therapeutic magnets, and 24-karat gold-plated pellets.
Host an Auricular Therapy Workshop
This portable workshop may be offered through:
- Hospitals and healthcare organizations
- Professional associations
- Clinics and integrative medicine centers
- Universities and professional schools
- Rehabilitation and behavioral health programs
- Continuing-education programs
- Community and public-health organizations
The workshop is designed for a small, interactive group so that participants receive direct assistance with ear anatomy, point location, material placement, and clinical application.
